THE election campaign is already under way in London’s East End.

But the 15 candidates who began canvassing in Tower Hamlets today have their sights set on the Town Hall rather than Westminster.

Polling day is just a fortnight away for East End schoolkids to elect their own Young Mayor’ for 2010.

Preliminary elections earlier this week had 31 candidates, with 6,386 votes cast online, matching last year’s turn out.

The 15 who’ve got through to the final round are now stepping up their campaigns in schools to win the votes on Election Day, January 20. They have even put their videos and manifestos online.

The count and inauguration of the new Young Mayor’ is at the Town Hall on January 21.
