Green fingers ready to turn bloomin’ East End into a Tower Hamlets haven

People with green fingers are getting ready to show off their horticultural skills in this year’s Tower Hamlets in Bloom competition in London’s East End.
The contest is for anyone making the most of open spaces—from balconies, community gardens and allotments to patios, businesses and schools.
The search for the East End’s brightest blooms, run annually since 1971 by Tower Hamlets Council, is part of a nationwide scheme to encourage more interest in the environment.
Anyone with even the smallest patch of earth is being encouraged to turn it into an idyllic haven, whether they’re experts or just novice beginners.
Last year’s competition attracted 100 entries, with winners invited to an awards ceremony at the Ecology Pavilion in Mile End Park. Application forms can be requested by phone on 020-7364 7459, or emailing email@example.com. Closing date is June 8, with judging in late June and early July.
