Volunteers helped plant 2,000 spring flowers which will brighten up a corner of an East End nature reserve.

They joined green charity Thames 21 to plant the wood anemone and bluebell plants at the East India Dock Nature Reserve which is run by the Lea River Park. Keen bird watchers can spot the black redstart and kingfisher at the reserve.

The nine volunteers planted all the bulbs in just an hour and a half on Sunday.

Aimee Felus from Thames 21 said: “It’s a piece of scrubby woodland and we hope the flowers will come up next spring. The bluebells will come out in April or May and the wood anemones a little bit earlier in March.”
