While the youth-team coach was at Brisbane Road for his ‘Big Match, Big Cause’ event on Sunday, two of the club’s youngsters were in Dublin

Errol McKellar revealed his pride after discovering Leyton Orient’s young pair Sam Ling and Josh Koroma had started for England C on Sunday.

The academy-graduates were unable to prevent Paul Fairclough’s team losing 4-2 to a Republic of Ireland Amateurs side, but nevertheless it was still a proud moment for the club to have two of their players involved in a C international.

McKellar worked with the duo when they were coming through Orient’s academy set-up and hailed the achievement.

He said: “Having Sam and Josh playing for England C is another proud moment for me and what a great honour for us as a football club to have some of our own representing their country.

“Yes it is a C international, but it is still a proud moment for us as a club and me on a personal level.”

While Ling and Koroma were playing for England C at the Whitehall Stadium, Orient were hosting a charity match in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and Hertfordshire Mind Network.

McKellar helped arrange the event along with Martin Ling and it was Ling’s London Legends who won 5-4 over McKellar’s Celebrity XI.

When reflecting on the day and the feats of O’s two youngsters in Dublin, the youth-team coach said: “I have known Sam since he was nine. I’ve been involved in his coaching and I have loved seeing his development.

“To have him back at the club again is fantastic and Josh is another youngster I have worked with and Sunday at the club was a great day and atmosphere.

“I’ve given 22 years of great service to this football club and they have given me 22 years of wonderful service back, so it was hand in hand for me to have this charity match at Leyton Orient.

“The fact I’ve had this massive support from all of the fans shows why I am so proud to have Leyton Orient beside me when it comes to this cause.

“I hope we can make it an annual event. We will speak about it and they want me to do it, so we’ll speak about making it a yearly thing.”
