Women from ethnic minorities are facing racism when looking for work, Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman has warned.
The criticism follows a cross-party report which found that unemployment among women from ethnic minorities is significantly higher than among white women.
Women from Pakstani, Bangladeshi and black communities were even found to be anglicising their names to improve their chances in the job market.
“These findings are very worrying”, said Mr Rahman.
“They illustrate the reality of racism and the damage it causes to the economy by making it more difficult for Black and Asian women to get work.”
