Last summer’s Paralympics gave disabled athletes in all fields from east London the chance to shine centre stage.

Now a new series of dance performances is providing a different stage—under the spotlights of the West End, aimed at showcasing artistic and performance talent for people with disabilities.

As a youngster, Laura Dajao had shown promise at school and later attended the Centre for Young Musicians as well as classes with the Performing Arts Youth Group ‘Young and Talented.’

But she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2007 and was forced to take to a wheelchair to remain mobile.

Yet Laura was determined to make it as a performer and auditioned the following year for East London Dance’s Company Limitless.

She went on to train in hip hop, contemporary dance, dance theatre, traditional African dance, krump and dancehall.

The freelance artist went on to set up her own dance company, the DaJance Arts Collective.

Now Laura is presenting an evening of dance at Sadler’s Wells’ Lillian Baylis studio on November 27 at 8pm, with a pre-show performance from 7pm.

The dance troupe Sardines, who trained at Newham College, are also taking part in this programme which is the third in the Sadler’s Wells’ Wild Card series.

Meanwhile, tonight sees the second Wild Card performance, Cooperire, from producer Anand Bhatt, take to the stage featuring a mixed bill of new work from home-grown and international artists.
