FA Youth Cup second round: Leyton Orient 5 Sholing 0

Leyton Orient’s under-18s continued their impressive run in the FA Youth Cup with a 5-0 win over Sholing at Brisbane Road last night.

The O’s headed into the second round tie having won their previous games against Tower Hamlets, Hornchurch and Biggleswade Town by an aggregate score of 12-0.

And they kept up their strong defensive record with another clean sheet in E10 and another emphatic victory.

Danny Webb’s youngsters took their time before taking the lead with only eight minutes of the first half remaining.

A quick counter-attack saw Sam Dalby find Charles Clayden inside the area and the winger composed himself before slotting home.

It remained 1-0 until the break and Orient didn’t have to wait long before doubling their advantage following the restart.

Ruel Sotiriou and Dalby, both of whom have made first-team appearances this term, combined magnificently with the former back heeling into his strike partners path and Dalby finished with aplomb in the 62nd minute.

Sholing’s task was made even more difficult after the second when James Johnson saw red for an altercation with Sotiriou.

O’s young forward received a yellow for his part in the incident with substitutes Luca Carter-Henry and Jaedon Phillips also cautioned.

Webb’s chargers pushed for a third to virtually seal their spot in the third round and with 11 minutes left they managed it.

Sotiriou showed his potential again with a fine dribble before applying the finish to match his earlier efforts.

Phillips came on for Orient moments later and he made his impact felt in the final 10 minutes of the game.

After going close two minutes before, in the 84th minute the substitute made it 4-0 with a wonderful finish into the top corner.

Phillips wasn’t finished there though, as he grabbed his second in stoppage time from inside the area to conclude the scoring.

Orient will now visit Premier League West Bromwich Albion in the third round with the tie due to be played at some stage in December.
