A TEN thousand pound reward for information which leads to the whereabouts and recovery of Whitechapel restaurant worker Mahmood Ahmad is being put up by his family.

Mahmood was kidnapped from outside his family home in Watford in the early hours of March 7 and his severed thumb was found in Ilford. Five people have been charged with his murder.

Mahmood's family are desperate for information on his whereabouts and are offering the reward in the hope that someone will come forward.

Mahmood's wife Farah Ahmad, 37, said: "The past few months have been a living nightmare for all of us and we are so desperate for information about Mahmood.

"Not knowing what has happened to him is extremely difficult to deal with. We are facing a daily battle to try and come to terms with everything and I would like to make a plea to anyone who has any information which can help the police and bring us some closure to call police or Crimestoppers.

"We realise that it may be difficult for you to pass on the details but I would urge you to think about what myself and the family are going through."

Det Chief Insp Melanie Burn from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit is leading the inquiry.

She said: "Mahmood's family are desperate for answers about what has happened to him.

"They are being supported by specialist family liaison officers and my team are continuing extensive inquiries in relation to the investigation.

"However, I would once again appeal to anyone with information about Mahmood's whereabouts to contact us without delay."

The family is urging anyone with information to contact police on 01707 355798 or Crimestopppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
