Dear Editor,

I WOULD like to thank everybody at the British Lion pub in Hackney-road here in the East End for rallying round when one of my customers and friend, Tony, recently died.

Unfortunately, he left no family to arrange his funeral.

But thanks to the kindness and generosity shown by his friends in the pub, he was not only given a very dignified funeral, but also a good old-fashioned East End send off.

The community spirit shown by everybody was overwhelming, so I would like to say thanks on behalf of Tony. He would have been very proud.

May I also say thanks to Cribb's the funeral directors and Access the printers for the service sheets and not least The Rev James Westcott, Father of St Chad's Church.
