As children return to school in the borough, and we recently celebrated excellent exam results, we are mindful of the threat hanging over our schools due to government cuts.

The educational success in the borough is down to the hard work of students and teachers, and the support of families.

It is also down to schools in the borough that have benefitted from investment.

As a council we work closely through the Tower Hamlets Education Partnership with all our schools, and have protected our investment in free school meals for pupils as we know hungry children don’t learn.

We are also investing in Young WorkPath to give young people help getting into work and training when they finish their education.

However the government’s National Funding Formula proposals look set to cut £16 million from our school budgets. We continue to lobby government to think again on this.
