Viewpoint: We must unite to tackle the root causes of violent knife crime
PUBLISHED: 09:45 20 March 2019
Violent crime sadly continues to dominate the agenda both locally and nationally.
I recently met the new director of the Violence Reduction Unit, Lib Peck, at City Hall to discuss plans to bring together various agencies across East London to focus on tackling the root causes of the problem.
I am grateful to local resident, Beth Granter, for recently drawing my attention to the issue of the postcode lottery that exists for accessing IVF treatment.
In Tower Hamlets, residents are still eligible for three rounds of treatment, but this is sadly not the case in many other boroughs.
From City Hall, I will be looking into what can be done to secure equal service provision.
On a final note, I was pleased to receive confirmation that TfL will act upon my calls, and those of local campaigners, to reverse the ‘no right turn’ policy from Burdett Road into Mile End Road, and that they will shortly begin consultation on this change.
