That noisy Olympics shake'n'vac soil machine keeps us up till late!

Open letter to Robert Kavuma, health environment boss at Hackney Town Hall: I LIVE right opposite the soil-washing plant in the 2012 Olympic Site that you gave something called a Section 61 Dispensation' to allow them to keep their noise running until 10pm. I wonder if you would mind if I appealed, on behalf of the residents here in Leabank Square. None of us can recall ever being consulted about this as it is only a few yards away from our bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms and we rather object to the noise
Open letter to Robert Kavuma, health environment boss at Hackney Town Hall:
I LIVE in Leabank-square in Hackney Wick, right opposite the soil-washing plant in the 2012 Olympic site that you gave something called a 'Section 61 Dispensation' to allow them to keep their noise running until 10pm.
I wonder if you would mind if I appealed, on behalf of the residents association here in Leabank-square.
None of us can recall ever being consulted about this as it is only a few yards away from our bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms and we rather object to the noise.
Don't get me wrong. We in Leabank-square are really pro-Olympics. It's just that we are one of only three residential estates bordering directly on to the Games zone-and so far no-one has had the decency to ask us about what time we would like to have supper, put our kids to bed, wind down after a hard day's work, without having a very noisy machine grinding away in front of us.
Now Robert, I have had a few Olympic men in suits sitting in my living room, presenting all kinds of graphs, photos, legal documents, maps, etc. They're actually very nice people. I like them. I made them coffee. I gave them chocolate biscuits. They have a job to do and it looks like they do it quite well.
I've never met you, Robert, but you sound like a nice person too. I am just wondering whose job it is in Hackney Council to have had a chat with some of us in Leabank-square before giving these very nice Olympic people permission to make a noise until 10pm.
If you would like to come and have a cup of coffee and also show me some maps and pieces of paper, you're very welcome. And yes, I'll get some Hobnobs for you, too.
But in the meantime, would you permit me to appeal this 'section 61' thingie?
If you would like to see what the rest of Leabank-square think about some of this, then go online to our Leabank Square blogspot on the internet.
The thing to draw your attention to is the 'comments' sections. This will give you a flavour of what a few of the residents are feeling at the moment about this noise.
So please have a think. Have a glance over some of the comments from my fellow residents. Have a chat to some of the Olympic suits. Have another think. Then please get in touch.
