Dear Editor,

SO THE Audit Commission has given its mates at the Town hall, The London Borough of Tower Hamlets, four (count them!) stars for "improvement" (East London Advertiser, July 31).

Some cynics (not myself, of course) would say that two starts are for 'spin' and the other two for living in denial.

It seems there are now two different Tower Hamlets'.

The first Tower Hamlets, produced by their (expensive, but he's the best, of course) partnership-approved subcontractor, Walt Disney, exists only in the minds of some councillors and senior officials.

The other Tower Hamlets, ours, grimy, crimey, often unwelcoming (yes, my visitors all notice this), graffiti-covered, ill-lit and ASB-centric where all the dials (literacy, adult life expectancy, employment for example) point to nearly zero.

I have no particular objection to these folk doing the dance of 'spin and denial' on the roof of Fortress Mulberry (Town Hall).

Just don't expect us to pay for the dancing shoes... and remember to get on with some actual constructive and visible improvement, when you are feeling less excited.
