Rail bosses are feeling ‘top of the pops’ having topped the annual chart for keeping trains on time.

The Fenchurch Street network through east London and Essex managed 96 per cent overall punctuality on the Tilbury and Southend-Shoeburyness services during 2011, according to latest rail industry figures.

So bosses in festive mood at C2C rail operators celebrated by hiring pop tribute band ‘Poprokits’ to play Seventies hits for passengers at Fenchurch Street today.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the festive season than having a Christmas number 1,” said the company’s managing director Julian Drury. “We are in first position of all UK train operators.”

Official rail industry figures out today show C2C achieving 96.3 per cent of services on time for the 12 months to December 10, making C2C Britain’s top rail operator.
