Rail staff at Fenchurch Street have been making travel connections finding out what it’s like for passengers to get from A to B—or rather, from the City to each of London’s six travel zones.
Employers from c2c train operators raised £400 for charity in a ‘dash for cash’ to randomly-selected stations in each of the zones, but using only National Rail or walking.
Train driver Geoff Powell, who threw down the challenge to his workmates, decided to “make it difficult” and banned using the Underground, buses, taxis or even bikes—which doubtless regular commuters would sympathise with.
The cash for the Railway Children street charity is on top of the ‘Three Peaks’ challenge which raised £4,000 last year climbing the tallest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 24 hours—the peak of their fundraising, as it were.
