THE 32 London boroughs and the City have formally extended the scheme letting pensioners and the disabled free travel on buses, Underground and most network trains 24 hours a day.
The Freedom Pass has been guaranteed for the next five years minimum after the deal signed as part of a funding package agreed with City Hall. The local authorities have agreed to contribute to the cost of extending the pass to allow those over 60 to use public transport round-the-clock, not just after 9.30am as before.
London’s free travel scheme is the country’s most comprehensive, costing around �270 million a year.
