Fire causes serious damage to flat in Mile End

A fire caused serious damage to a converted flat in Mile End Road yesterday afternoon.

Four fire engines from Poplar, Bethnal Green, Shadwell and Stratford fire stations attended the scene and 21 firefighters spent an hour bringing the blaze under control.

Three people escaped the first floor flat before fire crews arrived and were not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
