Five fire engines rushed to Bromley-by-Bow in the middle of the night after flames broke out in a block of flats.
Crews from Poplar, Stratford and Millwall and Homerton fire stations were called to Navigation Road at 1.34am, after a fire broke out in a cupboard on the tenth floor flat.
A total of 31 firefighters took an hour to control the blaze, which destroyed the cupboard and damaged half of a cupboard on the floor above.
Fire doors in the 12-floor building prevented flames spreading further, according to London Fire Brigade.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
