Thirty firefighters tackled a blaze in a 16 storey block of flats in Millwall.
Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters fought the fire at Hutchings Street, off Westferry Road.
A balcony on the eighth floor was badly damaged by fire and firefighters reported that there was a small amount of fire damage to an eighth floor flat. Around 12 people left the building before firefighters arrived at the building on New Year’s Day.
The alarm was sounded at 7.45pm on January 1 and the fire was under control by 9.30pm. Fire crews from Millwall, Poplar, Bethnal Green and Shadwell stations were at the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
