Firefighters have been kitted out with new uniforms to wear when they are out and about in east London advising the public about fire safety.

The ‘work wear’ trousers, T-shirts, short sleeved shirts, jackets and sweatshirts replace the old uniform which is more than 20 years old.

The jackets and shirts come complete with the Fire Brigade crest and logo to make them easily identifiable to members of the public.

Some 5,000 firefighters have been kitted out at all 103 London fire stations, including Whitechapel, Shadwell, Bethnal Green, Milwall, Stratford, West Ham, Plaistow and East Ham.

The kit, which has undergone rigorous testing, is also being worn under protective fire gear when firefighters are answering emergencies.
