FIREFIGHTERS popped into their local pub in London's East End to thank them for saving their pennies.

The staff at the Aldgate Exchange tavern managed to collect around £1,500 over the last 12 months from their bottle collection left on the bar of the boozer in Whitechapel High Street, which they handed over to the Firemen's Benevolent Fund.

A crew from the Blue Watch at Whitechapel fire-station nearby looked in after work to say thanks and present pub staff with a Benevolent Fund award for their support over the last few years.
