FOUR fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire in a caf� in Bethnal Green early this morning (Friday).

The blaze broke out in Cafe 338 on the corner of Bethnal Green Road and Hague Street around 5.15am and damaged part of the ground floor cafe as well as part of a flat above.

Fire crews from Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Kingsland and Shoreditch tackled the blaze, which was under control by 6.35am. Six people evacuated the building before the brigade arrived.

Fire investigators believe the fire was started by an oven which had been left on.
