Firefighters tackle blaze near Blackwall Tunnel

FIREFIGHTERS managed to prevent a night-time blaze in a scrapyard next to the Blackwall Tunnel spreading to East London’s Iron Mountain storage warehouse in Poplar early today (Wed). More than 20 firefighters were brought in to tackle the blaze at 1.45am, which took 20 minutes to bring under control

FIREFIGHTERS managed to prevent a night-time blaze in a scrapyard next to the Blackwall Tunnel approach road spreading to East London's Iron Mountain storage warehouse in Poplar early today (Wednesday).

More than 20 firefighters were brought in to tackle the blaze at 1.45am, which took 20 minutes to bring under control.

Flames were said to be "licking the warehouse wall" next door, but emergency crews managed to prevent it spreading in time. Now-one was hurt. Traffic along the A12 tunnel approach a few yards away was unaffected.
