TWO fire engines and around ten firefighters tackled tackled a blaze in a block of flats in Cubitt Town on Wednesday night.

The small fire, which started around 11.50pm in the kitchen of a ground floor flat in the four-storey block in Manchester Road, caused some minor smoke damage to the property.

A woman was led to safety by firefighters in breathing apparatus and was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Firefighters from Millwall and Poplar fire stations were at the scene and got the fire under control by 12.30am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
