FIVE Labour councillors have failed to be reselected ahead of local elections this May.

The Tower Hamlets Labour Party was put under "special measures" by the London regional Labour Party following allegations of membership abuse over the way ward candidates were voted in. A regional board is now in charge of the selection process.

A Labour insider told the Advertiser councillors Waiseul Islam, Mohammed Shahid Ali, Salim Ullah, Alex Heslop, and Fazlul Haque have not been reselected.

But a regional party spokesman said the process was not yet complete and that although some councillors had not been reselected they may still be offered a seat in another ward.
