HUMAN rights activists plan to lay a 'glowing pipeline' with flaming torches in London's East End tomorrow night (Saturday) around trendy Hoxton Square, to "symbolise the damaging practice of gas flaring" by the big multinational oil companies.
The Amnesty International demo is aimed at putting the spotlight on Shell at 6.30pm over the practice of 'flaring' in the Niger Delta of West Africa, where gas produced as a by-product of oil is burnt as waste in massive flares.
It has been banned in Nigeria since 1984, but Amnesty International says the oil giants continue the practice which causes permanent noise, heat, smell and light pollution with serious health concerns that have yet to be addressed.
