RAIL bosses have taken on a former supermarket whizkid to run Europe’s busiest rail terminal.
National Express East Anglia announced tonight (Wednesday) it has appointed Colin MacConnachie (pictured) as Station Manager at London’s Liverpool Street main-line station—after just two years in the rail business.
The Scotsman has had a flying career in retail, working for Sainsbury’s and Homebase, before joining National Express in 2007, working at Liverpool Street ever since.
“I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else,” he said. “I am part of the greatest station in Europe.”

But it isn’t all new stuff to him. Part of the new job as well as running passenger services is being responsible for all retail activities at the station complex.
Yet it’s still going to be tough. Liverpool Street is used by more travellers each day than Heathrow Airport.
There are 770 trains in any 24 hours departing, out through East London and Essex to the East Coast.
CALEDONIAN THISTLE
Colin’s greatest indulgence, he admits, is skiing, which is big in Scotland’s Cairngorm mountains south of Inverness.
His favourite football team—no surprise—is Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Family man Colin commutes daily into London from his home in Essex—by rail, of course.
He doesn’t have far to walk when his train pulls in each morning, dropping him right at the office.
