Youth footballers in Tower Hamlets are preparing to do battle in the third annual Mayor’s Cup tournament.
More than 800 young players turned out for the tournament last year, with organisers expecting a similar number this year – all of whom will be hoping to prove their credentials as the next Gareth Bale or Lionel Messi.
Heats are to be held on April 6 and 7 in Victoria Park, and on April 13 at Mile End Stadium’s astro turf pitches.
The tournament includes nine categories, covering junior and youth categories. Girls are also invited to join in up to the under 11 age group.
