The energetic midfielder departed the O’s in February and despite wanting more chances at Brisbane Road, he wants to see them back in the Football League again
Freddy Moncur has wished his old club Leyton Orient all the best and believes they will return to the Football League in time.
The 21-year-old departed the O’s on February 9 after five-years at Brisbane Road and is now plying his trade at Bostik Premier outfit Wingate & Finchley.
Moncur only played 11 times for Orient, but was an unused substitute on numerous occasions and was part of the team which suffered relegation from League Two in April 2017.
Despite the club already being down, 951 fans made the long trip to Blackpool on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign for a 5pm kick-off and it will live long in the memory for most – including their ex-midfielder.
Moncur said: “I remember the last league game at Blackpool and to see close to a thousand fans there was incredible.
“I think the club will come back, they’ve got such a big and great support, but it was sad to see them go down and to be a part of it.
“The National League is a tough division, there are a lot of good teams in there, but hopefully they can get back up soon and I wish them all the best.”
Moncur is not the only academy graduate to have left the O’s in 2018 with Aron Pollock, Michael Clark and Henry Ochieng all following the midfielder out of the exit door.
Plenty of Orient supporters called for the now Wingate man to get a chance during a poor run of form under Steve Davis between September 9 and November 11.
It was never forthcoming though with Moncur told to remain on loan at Bishop’s Stortford by the old head coach.
When Justin Edinburgh took over on November 29, the former West Ham United youth thought he may get another opportunity, but being cup-tied for the FA Trophy and the form of Ebou Adams saw him eventually released in February.
“It wasn’t going well for me under the previous manager at all, I was on loan at Bishop’s Stortford and when Justin took over I actually thought there was a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel,” said Moncur.
“I went and spoke to him and he told me I was training well and said ‘hopefully your chance will come’, but a couple of weeks later I was released.
“I do appreciate Justin’s honesty though and I certainly wish Orient all the best. It is a great club with a lot of great people there.
People like ‘Clarky’, Aron and Henry have also left now and ‘Clarky’ had been there a lot longer than me, so I wish them all the best as well because they are top people and top friends of mine too.”
