KIDS as young as four-years-old are being urged to ditch their favourite junk food in a bid to reduce the risk of cancer at a later age.

Tower Hamlets has been selected by the national charity World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) to take part in its new project which will involve the borough's four to seven-year-olds learning how to lead healthier lives.

The WCRF has decided to focus primarily on Tower Hamlets after recent figures revealed that the borough is battling with some of the highest levels of child obesity in the country, with nearly a quarter of four and five-year-olds overweight or obese.

Marni Craze, Children's Education Manager for WCRF said: "By working with both parents and the public sector, we hope to help make a real difference in the borough."

As part of the project, kids will have free membership to the charity's Great Grub Club and receive four magazines a year full of activities as well as a membership pack.

Parents with children who want to join the Great Grub Club can email grubgang@wcrf.org, call 020 7343 4205 or write to Great Grub Club, World Cancer Research Fund, 22 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3HH.
