AN EMERGENCY legal service has helped 341 people in East London who were at risk in the last six months of being evicted or having their homes repossessed, new figures out this week reveal.
They were helped by the Housing Possession Court Duty scheme run by the Legal Services Commission at Bow County Court which hands out free, immediate legal advice and representation to those at risk of losing their home.
Carolyn Regan, the Commission’s boss, said: “The repercussions of the economic downturn have affected many people in East Lonon. Many are struggling to make their mortgage or rent payments. That’s why this scheme is so critical.”
