MILLION TO WATCH OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY

A MILLION spectators could line the streets of London for Sunday's Olympic Torch relay and the dozen carnivals staged along the route. The relay begins at Wembley stadium 10.30am, passing through Notting Hill, Soho's China Town, Trafalgar Square, Southbank, past St Paul's, along Whitechapel, Mile End, Bow and Stratford, through Canary Wharf and on the Thames to Tower Bridge, ending at Greenwich for 6pm grand finale.

GLA TAKES POST OFFICE TO HIGH COURT

THE GLA has taken its campaign to force the Post Office to rethink its London-wide closures to the High Court. It is seeking a judicial review over lack of a full public consultation to save 171 outlets on the London 'hit' list. POLICE U-TURN ON BLOCKING ANTI-RACISM GIG

POLICE and local authority safety chiefs in East London have withdrawn objections to the Love Music, Hate Racism concert in Victoria Park later this month. They feared public safety and noise at the free event likely to attract 50,000 on April 27.

COPS HUNT THUGS DESECRATING JEWISH GRAVES

A POLICE forum on 'race hate' crime has condemned the desecration of East Ham's Plashet Jewish cemetery after vandals pushed over 40 gravestones and smashed others. Police treating it as a 'religiously motivated' crime are appealing for witnesses to the Saturday night rampage on March 29.

'SPIT' YOB GETS 3-YEAR 'STREET BOOZE' BAN

A MAN has been slapped with a three-year anti-social order banning drinking or carrying alcohol in public in the East End. Darren Noel, 41, could be arrested if spotted with drink in public in Tower Hamlets after he urinated in the street, swore and spat at people and intimidated pensioners in Whitechapel.

INQUEST OPENS ON MUM KILLED IN COP CHASE

THE inquest opened at Poplar on Thursday (April 3) into a mum killed in last Sunday's police chase in Bethnal Green. Raquel Williams, 31, from Leyton, died at the scene at 4.30am from multiple injuries. Her 19-month-old baby girl was among four trapped in the six-vehicle pile-up. A man appeared in court on Wednesday over the incident.

SPECIAL BRANCH HOLD COUNCILLOR AT AIRPORT

TOWER Hamlets councillor Oliur Rahman was detained at Heathrow airport for 30 minutes under the Prevention of Terrorism Act after returning from Cairo. He was quizzed by Special Branch at Terminal 4 on why he attended an anti-war conference and what contacts he made.

CHANCELLOR BARRED FROM PUB OVER BEER DUTY

CHANCELLOR Alistair Darling has been barred from The Albion pub at Haggerston after slapping another 4p a pint tax in the Budget. Guv'nor Dave Chapman has written to him saying he's no longer welcome if he ever turns up.
