EAST END IS PROMISED A £4.5BN BONANZA

MOST of the £6 billion being ploughed into the 2012 Games is paying for East London’s permanent regeneration, Olympics chiefs have assured. The Delivery authority responsible for the Games at Stratford estimates 75p-in-the-£1 is being invested in long-term projects. The Games themselves were therefore costing £1.5bn.

MISSING CLUB BOUNCER IS NOW FEARED DEAD

DETECTIVES are launching a fresh appeal for information about the disappearance of 30-year-old club bouncer Jimmy Harmon—10 years after he vanished from East London. Scotland Yard now fear he may have been murdered back in 1998, but have never found his body. Jimmy was last seen about 3pm on January 24 that year, visiting his girlfriend in Romford. His body has never been recovered.

POLICE QUELL ANGRY MOSQUE CASH’ PROTEST

POLICE were called to the Shahjalal Mosque on Stepney’s huge Ocean Estate when angry protests threatened to boil over following Prayers. Officers moved to calm placard-waving worshippers claiming community Elders were breaking promises to rebuild the mosque and demanding to know where the cash raised has gone.

...A 75-strong taskforce has been set up by police to stop and search youths after a senior officer warned the message about carrying knives wasn’t working. Two more teenagers were stabbed to death this month, which Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson told the Metropolitan Police Authority means “the message isn’t getting through.”

POLICE APPEAL IN HUNT FOR ROAD RAGE’ THUG

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road rage attack on a motorist at the Blackwall Tunnel entrance in which other drivers didn’t bother raising the alarm or coming to his aid. A van driver smashed a car window while the terrified motorist was inside, showing glass in his face, on the southbound carriageway of the A12 approach leading into the tunnel at 3.50pm on June 24.
