East Enders came out to celebrate the final week of the summer break with a pop up caf, charity shop and live music at the weekend.

The sweltering temperature attracted 150 people for Sunday’s open day and a chance to see what goes on at St Margaret’s House settlement next to Bethnal Green’s York Hall.

A pop-up vegetarian caf prepared a free buffet of sandwiches and wraps as a showcase for the settlement. There was also a pop-up boutique and bookshop.

The Museum of Childhood opposite lent toys for the kids including a set of Jenga bricks to build a tower, while volunteers ran kids’ workshops for painting and craft making.

St. Margaret’s House, an independent charity which has been in Old Ford Road since 1889, has 50 meeting spaces, halls, shops and a garden where up to 30 voluntary and community organisations meet. These include the Bangladeshi Parents and Carers Association, Quaker Social Action, Tower Hamlets Friends and Neighbours, Globe Bengali Mohila Samity, Winant Clayton Volunteers and 20 other groups.
