GEORGE Galloway was officially deported from Cairo today (Friday) when Egyptian police put him on a plane for London, say his supporters.
The East London MP had been trying to return to Rafah after news broke that seven of the Viva Palestina’ convoy members were arrested when police refused to allow him to go back.
Galloway and Respect party colleague Ron McKay arrived at the Rafah crossing from Gaza into Egypt when both men were put into a van as soon as they emerged onto Egyptian soil. They were then driven off in a police convoy, said supporters.
The Viva Palestina’ convoy that Galloway was part of clashed with Egyptian riot police on Wednesday, when 55 supporters were injured and seven were arrested.
Galloway and Turkish MPs struck a deal with the Egyptian authorities to get those detained released without charge.
But when he tried to return to Rafah, permission was repeatedly denied and he was driven to Cairo airport.
