SPECIAL OLYMPIC lanes will be used to get athletes to the 2012 Olympic Games without getting stuck in traffic.

The temporary Games Lanes will be used by athletes, judges, Olympics officials and media to help them avoid congestion and get to the games in time.

Up to 82,000 people will use the Games Lanes during the Olympics and Paralympic Games in 2012.

The boss of the Olympic Delivery Authority John Armitt said: "Where Games Lanes are required there will inevitably be some temporary disruption to everyday life, but we must give athletes the best chance to train and compete effectively. That means ensuring they get to their events on time and minimising the time they spend travelling."

The routes affected includeA106 between Temple Mills Road and Blackwall Tunnel Approach, A112 between Temple Mills Lane and Angel Lane, A11 between Bromley by Bow and West Ham Lane,

The Highway between Tower Hill and the Lower Lea Crossing and East India Dock Road.
