Community gardens in the East End are set to be opened up to the public next weekend as part of a national celebration of green spaces.
Four gardens will throw open their gates for the Edible Gardens Open Day, recognising the value of home-grown produce.
The four venues are Stepney Farm Kitchen, Rocky Park and Co allotment project in Bethnal Green, Canal Club Community Garden, also in Bethnal Green, and Lincoln Garden in Bow.
The openings are part of the government-funded Big Dig project, which aims to raise awareness of the role of community gardens. Celebrity gardener Alys Fowler, who is backing the event, said: “The Big Dig’s Edible Gardens Open Day is a wonderful opportunity to get out and see some lovely community spaces, taste fresh local produce and meet more people who like to grow and eat food.”
The gardens will open their gates on Saturday, September 21.
