GCSE: Bishop Challoner gets 70pc A*-to-C grades with 80pc in three subjects

The girls’ school in the Commercial Road got 70 per cent A* to C grades, with one-in-four achieving A* or A.

The boys’ school next door was close on its heels with 66pc A*-to -C, one-in-three getting A* to B.

Standing out proud is the 80pc A*-C in both schools for English, History, Art and Science.

Maths results also added up well with 75pc in the boys’ school and 80pc in the girls’ school achieving an A*-C.

“All this, against a national picture of confusion and unrest surrounding changes to GCSEs and a sharp decline in results,” said a Bishop Challoner spokesman. “Each one of our students has achieved their potential, with results improving for yet another year.”

Outstanding pupils include James Nguyen with six A*s and two As and head boy Regan-Thomas Healy with two A*s and six As.

Regan-Thomas said: “The support from my teachers was brilliant—they helped me so much.”

Enyi Chen and Ngoc Ly in the girls’ school got eight A*s and an A each!

Paulina Petraityte was close behind with seven A*s and two As.

Girls’ head teacher Chantelle Easmon-Johnson said: “These results have outstanding performances in English, Maths, RE and history to name but a few. Individual results have been brilliant with several students getting A*s in all their subjects.”

Most students begin Year 12 at the sixth form when term begins after the Bank Holiday.

Interim executive principal Nicholas Soar, former girls’ head teacher, leaves Bishop Challoner “after five years of improving results” and an outstanding Ofsted report. New executive principal Niamh Arnull takes over next week.
