Former Colchester United centre back will go up against one of his old U’s team-mates on Saturday at Brisbane Road

Leyton Orient centre back George Elokobi will enjoy catching up with Maidstone United defender Alex Wynter, but only after 90 minutes of battling for National League points at Brisbane Road on Saturday.

The 31-year-old scored his first goal for the O’s on Tuesday during their 3-1 win over Solihull Moors.

Orient next face Maidstone this weekend and the game will see Elokobi face a former Colchester United team-mate in the shape of youngster Wynter.

He said: “I am looking forward to seeing him on Saturday and hopefully I play against him.

“Wynter is a fantastic lad and a good player that deserves to be playing week in, week out, so hopefully he gets the opportunity to show what he can do in this league.

“I wish him all the best because he is a good friend of mine and we will be chatting after the game on Saturday, but hopefully after we have taken three points.

“There are no friends when you are on the football pitch, although at the same time we will respect Maidstone and approach the game professionally.

“We will work hard and watch a few clips from the Solihull game and see what we didn’t do right, so we can put it right on Saturday and get three points.”

Orient bounced back impressively from their 2-0 loss at Sutton United last weekend to defeat Moors comprehensively on Tuesday.

The only negative for Steve Davis and co was the goal O’s conceded towards the end of the 3-1 win.

Elokobi would love a clean sheet this Saturday, but knows it will come eventually for this new-look Orient back four.

He added: “We were disappointed to concede on Tuesday, but I am sure the first clean sheet will come soon.

“Again we will all have targets as defenders about how many we can keep during the season and I am sure the manager has a number in mind as well.

“Right now it is about getting the points on the board first and then we will take it from there.”
