Girls in court on £420,000 cocaine smuggling charges

TWO teenage girls from East London have appeared in court charged with attempting to smuggle eight kilos of cocaine worth £420,000 into Britain. They were arrested at Gatwick Airport by officers from the UK Border Agency after their baggage was searched by customs officers

TWO teenage girls from East London have appeared in court charged with attempting to smuggle eight kilos of cocaine worth £420,000 into Britain.

They were arrested at Gatwick Airport by officers from the UK Border Agency yesterday (Thursday) from a flight from Barbados after their baggage was searched by customs officers.

Both girls, 18-year-old Ting Ting Tran from Kingsland Road in Haggerston, and a 17 year-old, appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ court today. No pleas were entered.

They were remanded in custody and appear on video link before Haywards Heath magistrates on Wednesday.

The case has been passed to HM Revenue & Customs for further investigations.
