A throng of glamorous ladies and dapper guys took to the streets of the East End this weekend for a charity midnight walk.

Around 150 supporters of children’s hospice Richard House in Newham and St Joseph’s in Hackney kitted themselves out in 1940s outfits for the novelty stroll.

Setting off from the Kingsland Shopping Centre in Hackney as the clock struck 12am, they travelled through Shoreditch, Old Street and The City and were provided with entertainment along the way.

About £20,000 is expected to have been raised and the cash will be split between the hospices.

The walk was the first major joint fundraising event involving both institutions.

They get NHS funding but need to raise more than £10 million a year between them to cover the rest of their costs.
