French forward full of praise for Jay Simpson and the impact of Kevin Nolan
Leyton Orient forward Armand Gnanduillet believes the Brisbane Road club can achieve promotion this season.
The 24-year-old scored once in each half against Crawley Town on Saturday to earn them a 2-0 victory.
It was enough to move them back into the play-off places – they are now seventh in the table.
Kevin Nolan’s side are nine points off Oxford United in third, but hoping to cement their position in the top seven.
“I believe we can get promoted, the staff does to and every player, but we just need to keep more clean sheets and score goals,” said Gnanduillet.
“With Jay Simpson we have the top goalscorer in the league and some other players in the squad and others that weren’t involved on Saturday. We have a big squad so I believe we can get promoted.”
Gnanduillet stole the show at the weekend, scoring a stunning opener before volleying in his second.
While it was a good afternoon for him, Simpson was left frustrated after going close, but failing to hit the back of the net.
“Jay is unlucky not to score against Crawley, but I played against him when I was at Stevenage and he is very lively in the box, quick and his finishing is amazing,” added Gnanduillet.
“I know he will score again and again soon. It is a pleasure to play with somebody like him up front.”
It is no secret that previous Orient boss Ian Hendon wanted to bring the French forward to the club.
After he was dismissed, the transfer of Gnanduillet was completed with Nolan happy to sign the striker.
The former Stevenage loanee is thrilled to be learning his trade under the current O’s boss, adding: “When I first come in January obviously the club was looking for a new manager so when I heard it was Nolan I was excited.
“I knew him because he played in the Premier League. I rung my Dad and said I was with Teddy Sheringham at Stevenage and now I will be with Nolan.
“I will become a better player under him and it is good that he is playing because he knows what he wants us to do and always gives advice on the pitch. I think he is doing a great job along with the rest of the staff.”
With Orient back in the play-offs, it could be said both Nolan and Gnanduillet are doing a fine job.
