A charity for grannies raising kids has won a place in the semi-finals of the National Lottery ‘good causes’ awards, with public voting now open.
The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Network, a national charity based in Bethnal Green, is one of only 10 projects to make it to the semi-finals in the ‘Best Voluntary Project’ category in the annual search to find Britain’s favourite Lottery-funded schemes.
It provides support for people raising grandchildren, often because of difficult family circumstances such as bereavement, drug or alcohol abuse, serious illness, domestic violence, neglect or imprisonment.
Its chief executive, Sam Smethers, said: “We offer 200,000 grandparents and family members raising children professional advice, with support from others in the same situation, making them feel less isolated.”
