PASSERS-by rescued a woman being attacked by a sex fiend and held onto him until police arrived.

The 30-year-old woman was assaulted in a wooded area of Hackney Marshes in East London when members of the public nearby heard her screams and intervened and detained him till officers turned up.

Adelani Akamo was prevented from escaping by several people before he was arrested and taken to an East London police station.

He appeared at Snaresbrook Crown court yesterday (Wednesday) where he pleaded guilty to sexual assault and GBH.

The 23-year-old from Weymouth Terrace in Bethnal Green was remanded in custody to be sentenced on March 26. A charge of attempted rape was lift on file.

He was caught when police were called at mid-day on September 27 to Hackney Marshes where the woman was found with a cut to the head.
