A Bethnal Green care home has installed a ‘magic table’ to stimulate the senses of people with later stage dementia.

The Tovertafel device projects images onto a table, which a group of people can sit round.

The projected image can then be interacted with in different ways. On different settings users can pop bubbles, rustle leaves or watch fish swim.

The table is meant to stimulate a level of physical and social activity that dementia sufferers do not frequently experience.

Marcia Forsythe, home manager at Silk Court, said: “There is no doubt that it has helped those living with dementia, but it has other benefits too - it has helped others improve their hand-eye coordination and one of the most delightful things to see is the total joy it brings to residents playing the simplest of games with their grandkids when they come to visit.”
