Boris Johnson has begun another of his campaigns to get Londoners to recycle more rubbish.
The mayor has joined forces this time with London Councils at today’s Congress of Leaders at City Hall for a new programme to build on the 30 million Londoners saved last year by recycling.
“Every penny spent on land-filling rubbish is a waste of public money,” he insisted. “Recycling our waste makes sound economic as well as environmental sense. Recycling saves local councils big bucks that could be spent on other services.”
Two-out-of-three London local authorities have signed up to his latest campaign which he reckons could save up to 320 million by 2015.
The Congress of Leaders, which meets twice a year, is currently discussing preparations for the 2012 Olympics being staged in East London next summer.
