Hundreds of children from all over London’s East End are eagerly getting ready to compete in a festival of sport.
Some 600 youngsters are expected to take part in a variety of sports in this year’s Summer Neighbourhood Games being staged at Mile End stadium on Tuesday.
Sports include fencing, archery, BMX biking, badminton, football, rugby, athletics, cricket and tennis. Organisers are also running ‘taster’ sessions for children to sample sports they haven’t yet tried.
The annual Games organised by Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation brings together 32 community ‘mini clubs’ from all neighbourhoods. The clubs are run by young people who have developed as coaches through the federation’s leadership programme.
