Radio star Chris Evans has officially opened a ‘Garden of Tranquillity’ at a children’s hospice that has been donated by building contractors and their workforce at Canary Wharf.
The DJ-presenter cut the ribbon to open the landscaped garden at Demelza Hospice at in Sittingbourne in Kent yesterday.
Workers and contractors building Canary Wharf’s 25 Churchill Place development donated their time and cash to create and landscape the garden.
They put in all their expertise such as design and project management services, construction equipment and materials—and even supplied the trees and shrubs.
The workforce volunteered their time each weekend to lay out the garden in a project that would have cost £500,000 without them.
It features a picnic area, obelisk water feature, sensory areas, stone bridge and walkway.
The Demelza Hospice charity supports 800 children with life-threatening conditions and their families in London and the South East, offering respite, symptom control, end-of-life care and bereavement support for families.
