The NHS is launching a campaign to help Muslims in East London stay healthy during this summer’s Ramadan festival.

1.4 billion Muslims around the world will observe Ramadan by fasting for a month from July to August, and the NHS trust for North East London and the City is aiming to ensure East London’s Muslim population remains healthy.

As part of the campaign the Trust has produced a guide containing advice on observing Ramadan healthily and what to do if you experience symptoms such as dizziness and dehydration, which are often associated with Ramadan.

Somen Banerjee, director of public health in Tower Hamlets for NHS North East London, said: “Ramadan is a very special time for the Muslim community.

“The work we do for and with the community at this time leads not only to a healthier Ramadan but also a better understanding of health issues within the community throughout the year.”

The campaign will be launched on Tuesday June 26, between 12pm and 1pm, at the London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel Road,
