A ground-breaking film tackling the “taboo” issue of mental health is set to be screened in Mile End this month.

Award-nominated indie drama “Ollie Kepler’s Expanding Purple World” aims to tackle the issue of mental illness in modern British society and challenge people to think differently about it.

Director Viv Fongenie, who was inspired to make the film after working in the mental health sector, said: “We had to ensure we got the balance right in saying something important, without ever being preachy – which is what the audience will hopefully see.

“I hope people walk away from the movie having enjoyed it and laughed, but also have a different mindset of mental illness means.”

The drama – produced by Fruitcak Films - will be screened at the Genesis cinema in Mile End Road between Monday February 18 and Thursday February 21.
